State Senator John Damoose recently hosted Kim Nowack, director of the Mackinac Bridge, and Patrick Gleason, chairman of the Mackinac Bridge Authority, in Lansing. They testified before the Senate Committee on Civil Rights, Judiciary and Public Safety to support legislation that would designate the Mackinac Bridge as a “key facility.”
“This essential and iconic structure is an identifying symbol of our state,” stated Damoose. He emphasized that recent concerning situations highlight the need for such a designation to aid in prosecuting offenders. “This is not only in the best interests of our residents here in Michigan, but across the nation as a symbol of national defense. My bill will ensure that the bridge is afforded the protections it rightfully deserves,” he added.
Representatives from the Michigan Department of Transportation were also present to express their support for this legislative effort.
