The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team is set to conclude its regular season with a three-game road trip. The Wildcats, holding an 18-7 overall record and a 12-5 conference record, will face Roosevelt, Parkside, and Purdue Northwest.
After a recent loss to Michigan Tech with a score of 64-59, the Wildcats find themselves trailing Ferris State by half a game for the second seed in their conference. Their first match on this trip is against Roosevelt (11-12, 9-8) on February 24 at 6:30 p.m. ET in Chicago. They will then head to Kenosha to play Parkside (17-8, 12-6) on February 27 at the same time before wrapping up their season at Purdue Northwest (6-20, 3-15) on March 1 at 2 p.m. ET.
Fans can follow the games live via FloHoops or listen to broadcasts on 100.3 The Point with Casey Ford providing commentary.
Currently third in the GLIAC standings with three games left, NMU is closely contending for postseason home court advantage. They are behind Ferris State but lead Parkside by half a game and Wayne State by one and a half games.
In their last outing against Michigan Tech, NMU's five-game winning streak was snapped despite leading briefly after halftime. Abi Fraaza led Northern off the bench with an impressive performance scoring a season-high of 18 points.
The Wildcats have shown strength across various facets of play, ranking among the top teams nationally in defensive rebounds per game (19th), assist/turnover ratio (33rd), field goal percentage defense (39th), and scoring defense (41st). Junior Jacy Weisbrod stands out as she leads her team averaging 13.5 points per game and ranks highly for her proficiency from beyond the arc.
Roosevelt Lakers are entering Monday’s matchup having won four consecutive games and rank sixth in their league standings. Luka Malinka has been pivotal for them recently, boosting her average significantly over eight games.
Parkside Rangers trail closely behind NMU in conference rankings with notable wins such as upsetting No.1 Grand Valley State earlier this month. They possess strong offensive balance which could pose challenges for NMU.
Purdue Northwest Pride recently ended an eight-game losing streak; however they remain lower-ranked within conference standings largely due to high points allowed per game figures compared to other teams.
