The Northern Michigan University women's lacrosse team is set to host the UW-La Crosse Eagles this Saturday, February 22, at noon. The Wildcats, who have started their season with two non-conference victories against Walsh and UW-Stout, are preparing for another home game before embarking on a spring-break road trip. Josie Lakosky, last year's GLIAC Freshman of the Year and All-GLIAC First-Team selection, has been named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Over the past weekend, she scored seven goals and assisted one while maintaining a shooting percentage of 47% and securing 13 draw controls. Lakosky leads her team in points with eight.
Senior Maddi Bast and freshman Hannah Jabas follow closely in points with six each. Bast scored six goals last weekend, while Jabas contributed four goals and two assists. Bast and sophomore Natalie Thomas lead Northern in ground balls with four each. Senior Norah Bates earned GLIAC Defender of the Week honors after her performance against Walsh, where she led all players with three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
In goalkeeping duties, redshirt freshman Zoe Montgomery and sophomore Lauren Esposito shared time over the first two matches. Montgomery made four saves with a 57.1 save percentage, while Esposito recorded seven saves at a 63.6 save percentage.
For UW-La Crosse, this will be their first game of the 2025 season following a 12-6 record last year under new head coach Nick Anagnostis. Junior midfielder Ava Schiltz and senior defender Kaley Hendrick return as key players for UWL after receiving first-team honors last season.
The Wildcats' coaching staff includes head coach Lindsey (LeMay) Majkrzak entering her sixth season, assistant coach Quinn Crandall in her second year focusing on offense, and student-assistant Minnie Bittell joining as part of the coaching team.
Northern Michigan was ranked second in the 2025 GLIAC Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Preseason Poll behind Grand Valley State.
