The Northern Michigan University (NMU) Lacrosse team is set to begin its 2025 season with two non-conference games at home. The Wildcats will face Walsh University on Friday, February 14, followed by a match against UW-Stout on Sunday, February 16. Both games will be held at the Superior Dome, with start times scheduled for 5 PM and 4 PM respectively.
The game against UW-Stout is dedicated to Make-A-Wish. Admission for fans this season is free, with streaming available through FloLive and live stats provided online.
Head coach Lindsey (LeMay) Majkrzak shared her thoughts ahead of the new season: "We have ten freshmen and ten sophomores on a roster of 30 [athletes]... but I think this is the deepest we've ever been [as a team]." Majkrzak enters her sixth season as head coach and has led the team to consecutive GLIAC Championship appearances.
Quinn Crandall returns for her second year as assistant coach, focusing on the attacking side of play. Last year, NMU scored a record number of goals and points in a single season. Student-assistant Minnie Bittell also joins the coaching staff after an outstanding career with NMU lacrosse.
Returning players include Josie Lakosky, who was named GLIAC Freshman of the Year in 2024, along with Dayna Carlson and Maddi Bast who earned All-GLIAC honors. Goalkeeper Lauren Esposito and midfielder Olivia Rose are also set to return.
The Wildcats' first opponent, Walsh University Cavaliers, won their fourth consecutive GMAC conference title last year under head coach Erin Backinoff. Defensive Player of the Year Mallory Miller leads their squad again this season. On Sunday, NMU will compete against Division III team UW-Stout led by new head coach Mikayla Knudson.
