FOIA Request to Emmet County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

North Michigan News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Emmet County Election Division. The request was made under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq., with a preference for an electronic format response.

The information requested includes a comprehensive list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. The specifics asked for each candidate include their first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and their party affiliation.

In addition to these details, North Michigan News also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As members of the media organization, we believe access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
