FOIA Request Sent to Montmorency County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Montmorency County Election Division on February 5, 2025. The request, submitted by North Michigan News, sought comprehensive details about all candidates running in the upcoming election.

As part of our commitment to providing accurate and comprehensive news coverage on local governmental affairs, we requested specific records under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq. We asked for this information in an electronic format for ease of access and dissemination.

The information requested includes a list of all candidates participating in the upcoming election. We asked for detailed information about each candidate including their first, middle, and last names. Additionally, we requested data about the office they are running for and its jurisdiction along with the party affiliation of each candidate.

In addition to these details, we also sought contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to such public records is essential. It enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities effectively. Therefore, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional in line with our role in disseminating important information to the public.

We remain committed to delivering timely and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. We look forward to receiving this information from the Montmorency County Election Division soon.
