A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Alpena County Election Division on February 5, 2025. The request, sent by North Michigan News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks information about candidates running in the upcoming election.
The specifics of the request include a list of all candidates' first, middle, and last names. Additionally, it asks for details about the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. Party affiliation of each candidate is also requested.
In addition to these details about the candidates themselves, North Michigan News has also asked for all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As part of our mission at North Michigan News to provide transparency and hold public institutions accountable, we believe access to such public records is essential. Given our role in disseminating information to the public as a media organization, we have requested a fee waiver for this FOIA request.
