FOIA Request Sent to Oscoda County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Oscoda County Election Division in Michigan on February 5, 2025. The request was made by North Michigan News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request sought detailed information about all candidates running for office in the upcoming election. Specifically, North Michigan News requested the first, middle, and last names of each candidate, as well as the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. Additionally, the party affiliation of each candidate was also requested.

In addition to these details about the candidates themselves, North Michigan News also asked for contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

North Michigan News emphasized that access to public records is essential for them to fulfill their professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. They believe they are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional given their role in disseminating information.

As of now, there has been no response from the Oscoda County Election Division regarding this FOIA request.
