FOIA Request to Wexford County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at North Michigan News have submitted a request under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq. We are seeking records in electronic format that provide detailed information about all candidates running for the upcoming election.
The requested information includes each candidate's first, middle, and last name, the office they are running for, the jurisdiction of that office, and their party affiliation. Additionally, we have asked for complete contact information for each candidate which includes their address, phone number, and email address.
Our role as a media organization involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As such, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
