Northern Michigan University's men's basketball team is preparing for upcoming matches against Saginaw Valley State and Wayne State, following a successful weekend with victories over Grand Valley State and Davenport. The Wildcats currently hold fourth place in the GLIAC standings with a record of 14-6 overall and 8-4 in conference play.
This week, NMU will visit Saginaw Valley on February 6 and Wayne State on February 8. Fans can follow the games via the FloSports app or listen to Casey Ford on 100.3 The Point. Updates are also available on X through @NMU_MensBBALL and @NMU_Wildcats.
Coach Matt Majkrzak emphasized focus during these matches: "The challenge is going to be to not overreact to either results from earlier this season. The key for us is to take away the first five minutes of the game both nights and not let them see a bunch of threes go in…I hope we can have some success guarding both of these teams."
Dylan Kuehl continues to be a standout player, ranking tenth in the conference with an average of 15.4 points per game. He has achieved double figures in most games this season and recently joined NMU's exclusive 1,000 career-points club.
Saginaw Valley holds a record of 9-11 overall, having won their last three games, including an overtime victory against Purdue Northwest. They rely heavily on three-point attempts and have balanced scoring from Toodles Seal and Freddie McIntosh.
Wayne State, with a .500 record both overall and within the conference, boasts strong performances at home. Their leading players include Rob Lee Jr., Tamario Adley, and Carmelo Harris.
Earlier this season, Northern Michigan hosted Michigan State in an exhibition match that drew significant attention but ended in defeat for NMU.
