Northern Michigan University's women's basketball team is preparing for two significant conference games this weekend. The Wildcats will travel to the Lower Peninsula to face Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) and Wayne State University. After a recent defeat by Grand Valley State, Northern Michigan rebounded with a decisive victory over Davenport.
The Wildcats, currently holding an 8-4 record in conference play, are set to play against SVSU on Thursday, February 6 at 5:30 p.m., followed by a match against Wayne State on Saturday, February 8 at 1 p.m. Fans can watch the games via the FloSports app or listen live on 100.3 The Point with Casey Ford providing commentary.
Casey Thousand commented on the upcoming challenges: "Playing on the road in the GLIAC is not easy. It's going to be tough and it's going to be a battle for both…It's going to take our whole team again just like it did on Saturday for us to get the win(s)."
The Wildcats have maintained their third-place position in the GLIAC standings, trailing behind Ferris State and Grand Valley State. Notably, Jacy Weisbrod ranks eighth in conference scoring with an average of 13.3 points per game.
Saginaw Valley holds an overall record of 11-9 and is ranked third in the conference for allowing only 61.9 points per game. Megan McCalla leads SVSU offensively with an average of 17.2 points per game.
Wayne State shares an identical conference record with Northern Michigan at 8-4 and has recently secured victories against Purdue Northwest and Parkside. Taylor Thompson leads Wayne State's scoring efforts with an average of 12.9 points per game.
Northern Michigan's historical records show they have been successful against both teams but faced defeats earlier this season.
