The men's and women's swim and dive teams at Northern Michigan University (NMU) have been recognized by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) with the Scholar All-America award. This recognition is given to teams that achieve a grade point average (GPA) above 3.0 during the Fall semester.
The NMU women's team, consisting of 34 members, achieved a GPA of 3.64, placing them among 68 other Division II women's programs honored this year. They are one of only 15 teams to reach or exceed a GPA of 3.64.
Similarly, the men's team, made up of 30 athletes, earned a cumulative GPA of 3.35 in Fall 2024, joining a group of 56 Division II men's teams that received the award.
Samantha Barany, Executive Director of the CSCAA, praised the achievements: "The commitment to academic excellence demonstrated by these teams is truly admirable. It is inspiring to see student-athletes excel both in the pool and in the classroom. The CSCAA takes great pride in honoring and celebrating their dedication and achievements."
Barany emphasized that this recognition celebrates programs achieving high standards academically while representing their institutions athletically. She acknowledged Coach Heidi Voigt and her staff for their exceptional commitment to success in both arenas.
