Northern Michigan secures victory over UW-Oshkosh Titans in women's wrestling

The Northern Michigan women's wrestling team achieved a significant victory against the UW-Oshkosh Titans with a final score of 30-17. This match, held at Vandament Arena, marked their fourth dual win of the season.

The competition began with Mickaela Keane securing a win by fall at 2:26 in the 180-pound category. Keane's performance set an early lead for NMU, bringing the team score to 5-0. Kailyn Garrett followed at 207 pounds, achieving a win by fall shortly into the second period after trailing 7-6 initially. Her victory extended Northern's lead to 10-0.

UW-Oshkosh managed to even the score at 10 each through two wins by forfeit in the 103 and 110 categories. However, Yu Sakamoto restored NMU's advantage before intermission with a swift tech fall victory in just over a minute, putting her team ahead at 14-10.

Post-intermission saw Sara Schroder defeated by Mya Delleree via tech fall at 3:30, leveling the score once more at 14-14. The bout at 131 featured Sharon Leon who initially trailed but then led after a powerful takedown. Despite this effort, she lost by decision to Annesley Day from UW-Oshkosh, resulting in a narrow Titan lead of 17-15.

Northern Michigan concluded the duals with three consecutive victories by forfeit in the remaining matches featuring Sam Chaon (138), Alissa Caltagirone (145), and Sophia Bassino (160). These wins sealed their triumph with a final tally of 30-17.

Two exhibition matches closed out the event; Trinity Valentine was defeated by Paige Haaf while Sophia Bassino secured another win for NMU.

Looking ahead, Northern Michigan will host Grand Valley State on Saturday, February 6th.
