The NMU men's Nordic ski team concluded its weekend competition in Duluth, Minnesota, with the 20k mass start event. Adrik Kraftson secured a podium finish for the team.
During the race, skiers completed eight laps of 2.5 kilometers each to cover the total distance of 20 kilometers. Kraftson began his race in sixth place with an opening lap time of 5:59.5. He improved his position to fourth after a second lap time of 6:17.8 and further climbed to third place following a third lap time of 6:20.2.
Kraftson maintained his third-place position through the halfway point and fifth lap, moved into second at the 15-kilometer mark but eventually finished in third place with a final time of 51:47.0.
Colin Freed and Tryg Solberg from Michigan Tech took first and second places with times of 51:40.2 and 51:41.5, respectively.
Kristoffer Karsrud and Jonathan Clarke finished in sixth and seventh places with times of 53:58.5 and 53:59.2, respectively, while Luke Fricker completed the top ten with a finishing time of 54:35.3.
Hendrik Peterson finished in 21st place with a time of 56:58.0, followed by Mathias Haugen who placed 26th with a time of 57:54.6.
The NMU team will next compete on February 15-16 at the CCSA Conference Championships held at Tech Trails in Houghton, Michigan.
