The Northern Michigan University (NMU) hockey team faced a 5-2 defeat against Bowling Green in the second game of their weekend series. The match took place in Marquette, Michigan.

Tanner Latsch and Rasmus Larsson continued their scoring streaks by each netting a goal for NMU. Grayden Slipec, Medrick Bolduc, and Anthony Cliche contributed with assists. Ryan Ouellette started as the goaltender but was replaced after 24 minutes, having made 12 saves. Julian Molinaro stepped in and recorded 22 saves over 33 minutes.

Colby Browne had an opportunity to score on a penalty shot during the second period but hit the post. The last successful penalty shot for NMU was by Vincent De Mey against Michigan Tech on December 18, 2020.

The Wildcats will travel next to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to face Lake Superior State Lakers with games scheduled for February 7 and February 8.

During the game against Bowling Green, the Falcons capitalized on their first power play opportunity and scored following an overturned goal due to a high stick violation. They secured a lead with another goal before the end of the first period after what appeared to be uncalled interference on a Wildcat player led to Kabanov's successful shot past Ouellette.

O'Hara increased Bowling Green's lead with another goal that ended Ouellette's night as goalie. Larsson scored for NMU following strong forechecking by Slipec. However, Bowling Green responded with another goal five minutes before halftime through heavy traffic.

Latsch managed to reduce Bowling Green’s lead once more with help from Bolduc but Scardina’s empty-net goal sealed NMU’s fate at a final score of 5-2.
