The Northern Michigan University (NMU) Wildcats faced a challenging game against the Falcons on Friday night, ultimately losing 3-2 in overtime. The Wildcats fought hard throughout the match, managing to tie the game twice and pushing it into overtime.
Rasmus Larsson opened the scoring for NMU with his first career collegiate goal in the third period, tying the game at 1-1. Colby Browne assisted Larsson's goal, marking his first career collegiate point. As time was running out and NMU trailed 2-1, team captain Tanner Latsch scored with just a minute left, sending the game into overtime.
In overtime, Jakub Altrichter created an opportunity by forcing a penalty on the Falcons but NMU could not capitalize on their power play advantage. Shortly after returning to even strength, the Falcons scored on an odd-man rush to secure their victory.
Key performances for NMU included Ryan Ouellette making 34 saves with a .919 save percentage. On the opposing side, Jackson Niedermayer and Ethan Scardina each recorded a goal and assist for the Falcons, while Christian Stoever made 22 saves with a .917 save percentage.
Despite being outshot 37-24 by Bowling Green State University (BGSU), NMU held an edge in faceoff wins at 31 to BGSU's 28. Both teams failed to convert any power-play opportunities during this competitive matchup.
The Wildcats will return to action for Yooper Night at Berry Events Center on Saturday evening.
