State Representative Cam Cavitt has been appointed by Speaker Matt Hall to several roles within the House Appropriations Committee. Cavitt will serve as a member of the committee, as Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), Vice-Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Military and Veteran Affairs, and as a member of both the Labor and Economic Opportunity, and Corrections and Judiciary Appropriations Subcommittees.
Cavitt expressed his appreciation for the appointment. "I'm glad that Speaker Hall has afforded me the opportunity to take a serious look at how EGLE is spending taxpayer dollars," he stated. He mentioned concerns about project approvals and financial management within EGLE. "We've heard stories of EGLE officials cherry-picking projects to approve, poor interactions with the public, and overall financial mismanagement. I'm looking forward to meaningful conversations to ensure tax dollars throughout the state budget are actually hitting their mark and having the intended impact."
With 12 years of experience as Cheboygan County Drain Commissioner, Cavitt emphasized his commitment to managing state finances responsibly. The lawmaker from Cheboygan aims to reduce wasteful government spending.
Cavitt was first elected in 2022 to represent Michigan's 106th House District, which covers Northern Michigan counties including Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, Presque Isle, and parts of Oscoda and Cheboygan.
