The Northern Michigan University (NMU) alpine ski team is set to compete at the USCSA Spirit Mountain event in Duluth, Minnesota, following their recent success at Giants Ridge in Biwabik. The Wildcats will participate in a giant slalom on Saturday and a slalom on Sunday, with expected temperatures ranging from the upper teens to a high of 38 degrees Fahrenheit.
In their previous outing at Giants Ridge, NMU's women secured first place in both the giant slalom and slalom events. Tommie Springer took first place in the giant slalom, Reagan Olli topped the slalom and placed third in the giant slalom, while Marisa Witte and Ainsley Kirk finished second in their respective events. On the men's side, Kayan Hopke won the giant slalom and was runner-up in the slalom. Aaron Grzelak claimed victory in the slalom and second place in the giant slalom.
The Wildcats have a strong history at Spirit Mountain. Last season, NMU's women dominated by sweeping all top-10 positions in the giant slalom and taking podium spots in both events. Similarly, NMU's men swept podium places for both competitions.
