NMU Wildcats prepare for key matchups against Bowling Green Falcons

The NMU hockey team is set to face the Bowling Green Falcons in a crucial CCHA matchup this weekend at the Berry Events Center. The Wildcats, holding a record of 4-21-1 overall and 3-14-1 in the conference, will play against the Falcons, who stand at 12-9-4 overall and 8-6-4 in the CCHA. The games are scheduled for Friday at 7:07 PM and Saturday at 6:07 PM. Coverage will be available on Midco Sports Plus and via radio on 100.3 The Point.

Saturday's game is designated as Yooper Night, celebrating Upper Peninsula's hockey heritage with special jerseys that will be auctioned off both online through NMU's Facebook page and at the venue.

Netminder Ryan Ouellette has been nominated for the Hobey Baker award, given annually to college hockey's top player. Fan voting runs from January 22 until March 9.

In recent performances, NMU has shown improvement with a balanced record of three wins and three losses since January began. They have strengthened their defense and increased their scoring output significantly during this period.

Ryan Duguay stands out with five goals in six games while Jakub Altrichter leads with eight points. Jesse Tucker has made an impact with faceoff wins, ranking fourth in the conference. Goaltender Ryan Ouellette has also been notable with his performance between the posts.

As they approach these matches against Bowling Green, NMU holds a historical advantage over their opponents with a series record of 64-59-11 overall since 1976. In recent encounters before the holiday break, NMU lost twice to Bowling Green but aims to secure crucial conference points this time around.

Bowling Green enters the contest aiming to solidify home ice for the CCHA Playoffs. Brody Waters leads their offensive efforts while Ryan O'Hara contributes significantly as well. Christian Stoever has emerged as one of the top goalies nationally for Bowling Green.

Both teams are notably strong in faceoffs; however, neither team has scored a shorthanded goal this season in conference play.
