Ken Borton takes on multiple roles in Michigan House Appropriations Committee

State Representative Ken Borton has been appointed by Speaker Matt Hall to several key roles within the House Appropriations Committee. Borton will serve as Chairman of the Agriculture and Rural Development and Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee, Vice-Chair of the Department of Environment Great Lakes and Energy Appropriations Subcommittee, and as a member of both the State and Local Transportation and School Aid and Department of Education Appropriations Subcommittees.

Borton expressed his commitment to protecting recreational opportunities in Michigan. He stated, "We have a responsibility to protect recreational opportunities for people across Michigan. If DNR bureaucrats don’t give up their attempts to raise fees, clear-cut forests, and support policies that chase people away from the outdoors, we will zero out their budget and get them out of the way."

The lawmaker acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting that last year's budget exceeded $82 billion. He emphasized the need to scrutinize every department's operations: "This isn’t going to be an easy job. We’re talking about a budget that was over $82 billion dollars last year. We have a responsibility to look at every department and the programs they operate and ensure every dollar of waste is cut."

Borton, known for his critical stance on the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), expressed hope that its leadership would collaborate with him in ensuring public funds are spent wisely.

Representing Michigan's 105th House District since 2020, Borton's district covers Crawford, Missaukee, Otsego, Roscommon counties, as well as parts of Antrim, Kalkaska, and Oscoda counties.
