Wildcats prepare for home games against top-ranked Grand Valley State and Davenport

After securing significant victories over Ferris State and Lake Superior State, the Northern Michigan University Wildcats are set to face top-ranked Grand Valley State and Davenport at home this weekend. The Wildcats, holding a 13-5 overall record and 7-3 in conference play, will challenge Grand Valley State on Thursday, January 30th at 5:30 p.m., followed by a game against Davenport on Saturday, February 1st at noon.

Fans can watch the games via the FloSports app or listen live on 100.3 The Point with Casey Ford providing commentary.

Casey Thousand expressed optimism ahead of the matches, stating, "If we can make shots and continue our momentum, it's going to be a crazy game."

The Wildcats have climbed to third place in the GLIAC standings following their recent wins. Their defense has been crucial, allowing only 58.3 points per game. Key players include Jacy Weisbrod, who averages 13.5 points per game; Sarah Newcomer with an average of 9.3 points; and Alyssa Nimz scoring an average of 9.2 points per game.

Grand Valley State leads the conference with a perfect record of 10-0 and is ranked first nationally by WBCA. They maintain strong statistics across various categories including averaging 84.1 points per game while limiting opponents to just 51.9 points on average.

Davenport enters the weekend with a season record of 4-14 and has recently won against Parkside but lost to Purdue Northwest shortly before that matchup.

The Wildcats have historically struggled against Grand Valley State but hold a favorable record against Davenport.
