After a successful start to the season, the Northern Michigan University (NMU) alpine ski team is preparing for its next competition at USCSA Giants Ridge in Biwabik, Minnesota. The event will feature a giant slalom on Saturday and a slalom on Sunday. Current temperatures in Biwabik are at -9 degrees Fahrenheit, with forecasts predicting snow and lows of three degrees on Saturday and 19 degrees on Sunday.

The NMU team achieved significant success at last year's USCSA Giants Ridge competition, which marked the beginning of the 2024 season. Both the men's and women's teams secured first place in both the giant slalom and slalom events.

For updates after each race day, follow the NMU athletics website.

In their recent outing at Mt. LaCrosse, both NMU teams emerged victorious over the weekend. The women's team claimed first place in both events, securing eight of the top ten spots overall. Notable performances included Reagan Olli finishing first in the slalom and third in the giant slalom, Tommie Springer winning gold in the giant slalom and placing fifth in the slalom, while Ainsley Kirk took third in the slalom and fifth in the giant slalom.

The men's team finished second in the giant slalom but triumphed in the slalom, leading to an overall win for the weekend with seven top-ten finishes across both events. Reed Heathman won first place in the giant slalom and came second in the slalom. Kyan Hopke and Anthony Petkov secured first and third places respectively in the slalom.

A full recap of these results is available online.
