The Northern Michigan men's basketball team secured a 77-55 victory over the Roosevelt Lakers on Monday night at Vandament Arena in Marquette, Michigan. This win marked the third time in six GLIAC games that Northern's defense has held an opponent to 55 points or fewer. The Wildcats limited Roosevelt to just 31.7% shooting from the field and forced ten turnovers, converting those into 18 points.
Northern's bench played a crucial role, contributing 44 of the team's total points. Jackson Dudek led with a season-high of 18 points, nearly matching his career-best, while also collecting six rebounds. Cal Klesmit added 11 points with three three-pointers, and both Dylan Kuehl and Sam Privet scored ten points each with eight rebounds apiece. Kuehl also led the team with five assists and two steals.
The Wildcats' offense found success beyond the arc, hitting ten three-pointers during the game. Five different players contributed to this tally.
Northern initially trailed after a quick start by Roosevelt but regained momentum thanks to contributions from Dudek and Klesmit. A strong defensive play by Julien Smith helped energize the team early on.
In the second half, despite numerous fouls disrupting play rhythm, Northern extended its lead significantly with another decisive run featuring Dudek's scoring prowess. The Wildcats achieved their largest lead of 28 points late in the game before securing their victory.
With this win, Northern improved to an overall record of 11-3 and a conference record of 5-1 in GLIAC play. Meanwhile, Roosevelt dropped to a record of 4-10 overall and 1-5 in conference action.
Northern will continue its series of home games against Wayne State at Vandament Arena on Thursday, January 16.
