Northern Michigan women's wrestling hosts Alma College and competes in Lakeland Scramble

The Northern Michigan women's wrestling team is set to resume competition after their last outing on December 15. The Wildcats will host Alma College for duals this Saturday at the Superior Dome in Marquette, Michigan. The event, scheduled for 2 p.m., is free and open to the public.

Following the home match, the team will travel to Plymouth, Wisconsin, to participate in the Lakeland Scramble on Sunday. This tournament begins at 1:30 p.m. ET (12:30 p.m. CT).

During their previous competition at the North Central College Invitational on December 15, Northern Michigan secured 14 points, finishing 31st out of 41 teams. Clarissa Wangen led with two victories in the 180 weight class, while Ruby Joseph, Mickaela Keane, Sophia Bassino, Samantha Chaon, and Zhivanna Magdaleno each recorded a win.

Yu Sakamoto holds an 11th-place national ranking in the 117 weight class by The Open Mat and recently claimed a world champion title at the U23 World Championships in Albania. Alissa Caltagirone is ranked 14th in the 145 weight class, and Ozioma Ogu is positioned at 19th in the 207 category.

The NMU wrestling program boasts ten regional top-5 finishes and has produced two All-Americans along with twelve Scholar All-Americans over its three-year history.
