The Northern Michigan University (NMU) women's basketball team is set to begin a four-game homestand, facing off against rival Michigan Tech on Thursday, January 9, at 5:30 p.m. NMU enters the game with a record of 9-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Wildcats aim to maintain their strong start against the Huskies, who hold a record of 5-7 overall and 2-2 in conference games.

The upcoming match will be broadcast on Fox-UP with commentary from Mark Evans and Dave Ellis. Fans can also watch the game on FloHoops or listen to it on 100.3 The Point, where Casey Ford will provide coverage.

NMU currently ranks behind Grand Valley State Lakers and Ferris State Bulldogs in their league standings. The Wildcats are nationally ranked within the top-25 for turnovers per game, defensive rebounds per game, and assist/turnover ratio. Jacy Weisbrod stands out as a key player for NMU, ranking fifth in the conference with an average of 15.5 points per game.

Head coach Casey Thousand has led NMU to significant achievements since taking charge. Under her guidance, the team started this season with an impressive eight consecutive wins, marking their best start since the 1998-99 season. Last year, Thousand guided NMU to the NCAA Tournament and achieved a record of 37-23 over her first two seasons.

Michigan Tech's team is led by senior guard Isabella Lenz, who averages 15.8 points per game and has consistently scored in double figures throughout the season. Sam Clayton serves as head coach for Michigan Tech in her seventh season.

Historically, Northern Michigan holds a slight disadvantage against Michigan Tech with an all-time record of 53-56 but broke a losing streak last season with a decisive victory over the Huskies.
