State Rep. Cam Cavitt | Michigan House Republicans

State Representative Cam Cavitt has expressed the intention of House Republicans to lead effectively in the Michigan state House, contrasting their approach with what he describes as the "embroiled Democrat leadership" of recent years. Cavitt, a Republican from Cheboygan, criticized the Democrats' handling of legislative processes over the past two years.

“House Republicans may not have been in Lansing to end the year, but that dumpster fire burned so hot you could see it from the Mackinac Bridge,” Cavitt stated. He criticized Democrats for passing complex legislation without sufficient input and likened their behavior to "high schoolers prone to procrastination."

Cavitt highlighted that Republican unity, along with support from an independent-minded Detroit Democrat, was instrumental in blocking several policies. These included proposals such as driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants and increased fees on homeowners.

“House Republicans have stood together for two years. Now we’re ready to carry that unity into the new year,” Cavitt added. He emphasized plans to address issues such as road repairs and ensuring government accountability.

The current legislative term concludes on New Year’s Eve, with Republicans assuming control of the state House on January 8. Michigan is noted as being unique this election cycle for experiencing a change in party control within its legislative chamber.
