The NMU women's nordic ski team commenced their 2024/25 season at the Swedetown Season Opener in Calumet, Michigan. The event took place on Saturday, with challenging weather conditions marked by snow and freezing rain, resulting in icy trails.

Head coach Andy Keller shared his observations after the 7.5km interval start race: "Lots of snow up here in Calumet but was freezing rain during so trails were a bit icy and tricky," he said. "A fun race to break off the rust and get the season going."

Henriette Nilssen achieved a notable performance by securing second place in the under-29 age group with a time of 20:01.6. Pearl Harvey followed closely behind for NMU, finishing fifth with a time of 20:56.2. Ella Niznik completed the lineup for NMU, finishing in 12th place with a time of 22:21.2.

Looking ahead, NMU will compete again on December 12 and 14 at the Gitchi Gami Games held on the Birkie trail system in Cable, Wisconsin. The upcoming events will feature a freestyle sprint on Thursday and a classic sprint on Saturday.
