The Northern Michigan track and field team participated in its first indoor meet of the season, securing third place among nine teams at the Early Bird Open in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The event was marked by Ellyse Wolfrath's victory in the 60m hurdles, a win for the 4x400m relay team, and second-place finishes from Walker, Sweeney, and Lane.
In track events, Ellyse Wolfrath and Crystal Walker finished first and second respectively in the 60m hurdles. Wolfrath completed the race in 8.69 seconds, while Walker followed with a time of 8.89 seconds. Wolfrath's preliminary time of 8.66 seconds was an NCAA provisional mark and is currently ranked as the second-best time in Division II.
The relay team consisting of Ahna Larson, Ellyse Wolfrath, Ciara Ostrenga, and Beverly Harper won the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:00.99.
In the 3000m race, Emma Sweeney secured second place with a time of 10:58.23. Anya VanSweden, Ella DeBruyn, and Lola Korpi also placed within the top six positions.
For the mile event, Beverly Harper led Northern Michigan to fifth place with a time of 5:34.28. Emma Sweeney, Anya VanSweden, and Lola Korpi all finished under six minutes.
Ciara Ostrenga achieved third place in the 400m with a time of 59.31 seconds. In the longer distance of 800m, Ella DeBruyn finished sixth with a time of 2:36.89.
In field events, Rebecca Lane claimed second place in the long jump with a distance of 3.35 meters while Kati Smith tied for sixth at 3.05 meters.
Alizabeth Little took fourth place in shot put with a throw reaching 12.36 meters and fifth place in weight throw at a distance of 14 meters.
Crystal Walker reached fifth position in long jump at a distance of 5.50 meters while Grace Wolfe secured sixth place in high jump clearing a height of 1.50 meters.
Teiolla Harvey earned seventh place in shot put with an effort measuring 11.63 meters whereas Evan Zonca took eighth position in long jump covering a distance of 10.22 meters.
Yesterday during pentathlon competition Evan Zonca placed eighth; Natasha Nowakowski finished eleventh; Alyna Vandegriff concluded fifteenth overall.
Looking ahead 'Cats will take over one month off for holidays before resuming their schedule on January twenty-fifth attending Karl Schlender Invitational hosted by UW-Whitewater.
