Nmu Wildcats prepare for Calvin College Invite after strong performance

After a period of rest, the Northern Michigan University (NMU) Wildcats swim and dive teams are gearing up for a significant mid-season challenge at the Calvin College Invite. This event is scheduled to take place from December 5th to 7th at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The competition will span three days, with sessions occurring daily at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The Wildcats will compete against a formidable lineup of teams including host Calvin University, as well as top-ranked Grand Valley State, Findlay, Grove City, and Indiana Wesleyan. Both NMU men's and women's teams will face these opponents.

In recent rankings by D2 CSCAA Top-25 for November 2024, NMU's women's team is ranked eighth with 179 points and a record of 6-1. The men's team holds the twelfth position with 167 points and a record of 3-4. Host Calvin University's women's team ranks fourteenth in D3 CSCAA Top-25 with 171 points and their men's team is fifth with 358 points.

In their last outing on November 9th against Wayne State University (WSU) and University of Findlay (UoF), NMU's men's swim team fell to Wayne State but triumphed over Findlay. Key performances included William LaCount's victories in multiple events including the relay races, Gabriel Fulcoini's wins in freestyle events, Wyatt Dickman's success in breaststroke events, and Leo Nolles' contributions in freestyle races.

The NMU women's swim team achieved victories over both Wayne State and Findlay during the same meet. Notable performances were delivered by Elena Curti in freestyle events, Camilla Carbone in backstroke events, and Abbie Harned who excelled in diving competitions.
