State Senator John Damoose is set to participate in a virtual press conference on December 2nd, aimed at garnering support for water affordability legislation currently under consideration by the Michigan Legislature. The event will also feature State Senators Stephanie Chang and State Representative Abraham Aiyash, along with Macomb County Councilman Henry Yanez.

Representatives from various social service organizations such as Michigan Community Action, Michigan Catholic Conference, and Michigan Nurses Association are expected to join the discussion. The focus of the conference will be on highlighting critical legislation designed to address Michigan's ongoing water affordability crisis.

The proposed legislative package includes Senate Bill 25 and SBs 549–554. These bills were developed through collaboration with local governments, water utilities, and community organizations. The goal is to ensure access to clean water while promoting equity, economic stability, and public health across the state.

A key component of this initiative is a statewide program that would be administered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in partnership with community organizations. This program aims to provide financial relief for struggling families and ensure financial stability for water utilities through reliable revenue for infrastructure maintenance.

The virtual press conference will take place via Zoom at 2:30 p.m., providing an opportunity for lawmakers and advocates to discuss these legislative efforts in detail.
