State Rep. John Roth | Michigan House Republicans
State Representative John Roth recently marked the passage of a bill designed to extend the driving period for historic car owners in Michigan. The new law allows vehicles with historic plates to be driven on public roads for three months, up from the previous one-month limit.
“Michigan was built on automobiles. It only makes sense that we should honor that history by giving folks more time to drive their historic vehicles,” said Roth, R-Interlochen. “Many cars and trucks with historic plates were built here in Michigan. People put a lot of time and money into purchasing and maintaining these automobiles. Anyone with that much commitment to historic vehicles should have all summer to show them off.”
Roth shared his enthusiasm at the Northport Car Show, Leelanau County’s longest-running auto event, held over Memorial Day weekend.
“This is going to be a great summer for those of us who love old automobiles,” Roth said. “I love going to car shows. But it’s even more fun when I get to tell a crowd full of people that they have even more time to drive their antique vehicles.”

June 30 – National Cherry Festival Car Show in Traverse City
July 7 – Gilmore Car Museum Auto Muster in Hickory Corners
July 12 – Villa at the Bay in Petoskey
July 27 – Arcadia Daze Car Show in Arcadia
August 10 through 11 – Alden Classic Sports Car Show in Alden
August 17 – Woodward Dream Cruise in the Detroit suburbs
