The Northern Michigan wrestling team faced Grand Valley State University in its first home duals of the season on Saturday night in Allendale, Michigan. The match ended with a decisive 44-6 victory for GVSU.

The competition began at the 160-pound category, where GVSU's Clarissa Agostini triumphed over Sophia Bassino with a technical fall score of 14-4 in 4:16 minutes, setting the tone for the evening with a 4-1 team score. Sabrina Nauss from GVSU continued the momentum by defeating Clarissa Wangen by fall at 1:42 in the 180-pound bout, extending their lead to 9-1.

Northern Michigan secured its sole victory at the 207-pound weight class when Ozioma Ogu pinned Aaliyah Grandberry in 2:49, narrowing the gap to a team score of 9-6. However, NMU forfeited at the 103-pound division, increasing GVSU’s lead to 14-6.

GVSU’s Sage Mortimer quickly defeated Trinity Valentin by fall just three seconds into their bout at the 110-pound class, pushing the score to 19-6. At 117 pounds, Ana Malovich won over Bryn Sandhu by fall four seconds into their match, bringing GVSU's total to 24 points.

Aspen Blasko added another win for GVSU against Zhivanna Magdaleno with a pinfall at 1:18 during their contest at the 124-pound division, making it a commanding lead of 29-6. Hannah Palise then pinned Sharon Leon in their bout at the 131-pound class after two minutes and thirty-three seconds, increasing the tally to a dominant scoreline of 34-6.

In one of the final matches of the night at the138-pound division, Katerina Lange secured another win for GVSU over Samantha Chaon by fall after one minute and forty seconds. An additional NMU forfeit at145 pounds sealed Grand Valley State’s victory with a final team score of44-6.

Looking ahead, Northern Michigan is scheduled to compete again on December6at UW-Oshkosh for another series of duals.
