Recently, the Wildcats competed in the Adrian Invite, finishing 12th out of 29 teams. Freshman Sophia Bassino was a standout performer, securing third place in her category. She began her run with a victory over Janiya Brogan from West Liberty University and continued with wins against Jacqueline Sandquist from Gannon and Paige Jackson from Lock Haven University. Although she fell in the semifinal to Destiny Rodriguez, Bassino bounced back to claim third place by defeating Tiera Jimerson from North Central College.

Another notable performance came from Alissa Caltagirone, who placed sixth in her category at the Adrian Invite. Caltagirone's journey included victories over Tayla Tildsley of Sacred Heart University and Sarina Bertram of North Central College.

Northern Michigan also participated in three dual matches last weekend, achieving victories over Alma and D'Youville but narrowly losing to Sacred Heart.

Yu Sakamoto leads Northern Michigan's rankings as she holds sixth place in the 117 weight class according to The Open Mat. Sakamoto recently earned recognition as a world champion at the U23 World Championships held in Albania. Other ranked wrestlers include Zhivanna Magdaleno (9th at 124), Alissa Caltagirone (15th at 145), Sophia Bassino (15th at 160), and Ozioma Ogu (20th at 207).

As a team, Northern Michigan ranks 15th in tournament standings and 16th in team dual rankings as they enter their fourth season. Over its history, NMU has achieved ten regional top-5 finishes and produced two All-Americans along with twelve Scholar All-Americans.

Tony DeAnda received accolades as Regional Coach of the Year in 2023.
