FOIA Request Sent to Oscoda County Election Division Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024

FOIA Request to Oscoda County Election Division Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024.

In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at North Michigan News have sent a request under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq., to the Oscoda County Election Division.

Our request specifically seeks access to records of pre-election test reports for election voting machines in the county. We have asked for these reports in an electronic format, preferably PDF, with specific fields included. These fields are the test date, machine manufacture, machine model number, and machine status indicating whether the machine passed or failed the test.

As a media organization dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We believe that as a media organization involved in disseminating information, we are eligible for a fee waiver under FOIA regulations. We await a response from the Oscoda County Election Division regarding our request.
