FOIA Request to Emmet County Election Division Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at North Michigan News have submitted a request for records under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq.

Our request specifically seeks access to the pre-election test reports for voting machines used in the county's elections. We have asked for these reports to be provided in PDF format and include specific details such as the test date, machine manufacturer, machine model number, and machine status indicating whether it passed or failed the test.

As a media organization, we are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We await a response from the Emmet County Election Division and will keep our readers updated on any developments regarding this matter.
