FOIA Request Sent to Iosco County Election Division Regarding Voting Machines Testing Report on October 30, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Iosco County Election Division regarding a pre-election test report for voting machines on October 30, 2024.

We at North Michigan News, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, requested these records under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq. We specifically asked for the reports in an electronic format, preferably PDF.

The details we sought from the pre-election test report included the date of the test, the machine manufacturer's name, the machine model number, and the status of each machine (whether it passed or failed).

As a media organization committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to our readership, access to public records such as these is crucial. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

Our commitment remains unwavering towards ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to ensure fair and transparent elections. We will continue to monitor and report on any developments regarding this FOIA request.
