The Northern Michigan women's basketball team secured a 53-48 victory over the Lewis Flyers in the Midwest Region Tip-Off Tournament, held in Wisconsin Dells. The Wildcats established an early lead with a 19-9 first quarter and maintained their advantage throughout the game.

Northern Michigan's defense was effective, keeping Lewis under 50 points and below 35% shooting. This win marked the fourth consecutive victory for NMU against Lewis and was the first time since the 2021-22 season that Lewis was held to fewer than 50 points.

Sarah Newcomer led Northern Michigan's offense with 14 points, including four three-pointers. CJ Romero added all of her 10 points in the second half, while Alyssa Nimz contributed significantly with 11 rebounds and six points. Alyssa Hill also played a key role with nine points and five rebounds.

The Wildcats started strong with an early run of three-point shots from Newcomer, Kayla Tierney, and Sydney Whitehouse, establishing a commanding lead early on. Despite attempts by Lewis to close the gap, NMU kept their lead intact until late in the game.

Newcomer's crucial three-pointer in the fourth quarter proved decisive as it was Northern Michigan's only field goal during that period. Although they missed their final seven shots, free throws by Nimz and Romero sealed their win.

Northern Michigan shot at a rate of 33.3% from the floor compared to Lewis' slightly higher percentage of 34%. The Wildcats successfully made eight three-pointers compared to Lewis' four and recorded all four blocks in the game from different players.

The Wildcats are set to play Minnesota Crookston next at Vandament Arena on November 15.
