The NMU hockey team faced a setback in their recent match against the Lakers, losing 5-1. The Lakers now lead the Cappo Cup series 2-0 over the Wildcats. The decisive matches of this inner-season tournament will be held on February 7 and 8, 2025, in Sault Ste. Marie.

Zach Michaelis scored his first goal of the season for NMU just two minutes into the game, with assists from Jakub Lewandowski and Nicolas Ardanaz, who both marked their first points as Wildcats. Ryan Ouellette was in goal for NMU throughout the match, making 27 saves.

Jakub Altrichter led all players with seven shots and six shots on goal, along with winning 11 out of 18 faceoffs. The Wildcats were narrowly outshot by their opponents, managing a total of 29 to the Lakers' 32. They successfully killed one penalty but failed to capitalize on two power-play opportunities while blocking a total of 14 shots.

For the Lakers, Dawson Tritt contributed two goals while Sasha Teleguine provided three assists. Jacob Conrad and Timo Bakos each recorded a goal and an assist. Goalie Rorke Applebee made a significant contribution with 28 saves.

Looking ahead, NMU is set for its first CCHA road trip to Mankato, Minnesota to play against the No.16 Mavericks on November 15 and 16. This marks the beginning of a challenging period where they will spend four out of five weekends away from home before returning for games against Ferris State Bulldogs on December 6 and 7.
