Northern Michigan finishes strong at Midwest Regional Championship

The Northern Michigan cross country team secured 11th place out of 27 teams at the Midwest Regional Championship held in Romeoville, Illinois. The team made a significant improvement in the final stretch of the race, advancing three positions to achieve their 15th consecutive top-15 finish in the region.

Junior Gianna Hoving led the Wildcats with an 18th place finish, clocking in at 21:54.16 and earning All-Region accolades. Hoving, who had previously received All-GLIAC First Team honors, demonstrated her racing prowess by moving from 41st at the 2K mark to finishing strong in 18th position at the end of the 6K race.

Sophomore Dani VanLente was next for Northern Michigan, finishing in 63rd place with a time of 23:06.60. VanLente improved her position during the race, starting from 82nd at the 2K point and ending up in 63rd.

Senior Skylar Grubb finished third for her team with a time of 23:12.04, securing the 71st spot. Close behind was sophomore Lamar Gordon, who completed his run in 75th place with a time of 23:15.82. Junior Beverly Harper achieved a personal best by finishing in 80th place with a time of 23:20.85.

Sophomore Emma Sweeney and freshman Celia Wallace rounded out Northern Michigan's performance by finishing in positions of 108th and 136th respectively.

Grand Valley emerged victorious overall with Lauren Kiley taking first place individually at a time of 20:57.78, followed closely by teammate Allie Arnsman who finished second at 21:16.21. The Lewis Flyers secured second place as a team while Cedarville completed the top three standings.
