The Northern Michigan wrestling team began its season with a decisive victory over Alma College, winning 40-10 at Art Smith Arena. This match marked an improvement from their previous encounter on February 6, where Northern Michigan won 33-13.
In this dual meet, six Wildcats secured victories by fall, contributing five points each to the team's score. Zhivanna Magdaleno claimed her win in the 124 weight class at 2:57. Samantha Chaon followed suit in the 138 category with a time of 1:33. Alissa Caltagirone emerged victorious in the 145 division at 2:37. Sophia Bassino added another win for the team in the 160 weight class at 4:03, and Clarissa Wangen achieved her victory in just 0:53 in the battle at 180. Ozioma Ogu completed NMU's success by pinning her opponent at the 207 weight class.
Additional points were earned through forfeits for Northern Michigan in the 117 and 131 categories, while Alma College secured a forfeit win at the 103 weight class and achieved a victory via fall in the contest at 110.
Looking ahead, Northern Michigan will compete next at Adrian College over two days. The team will participate in duals on Saturday before transitioning to tournament play on Sunday.
