Northern Michigan exits NCAA Tournament after first-round loss to Ferris State

The Northern Michigan men's basketball team faced a challenging defeat against Ferris State in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats struggled with their shooting, making only 22 out of 65 attempts, which equates to a 33.8% shooting performance. This resulted in an 81-65 loss, concluding their season with a record of 22-11.

The game began with Northern Michigan taking an early lead at 7-4. However, Ferris State responded with a decisive 12-0 run. During this period, NMU was unable to score a field goal for nearly nine minutes, missing all eleven attempts they took.

By halftime, Ferris State had established a commanding lead of 41-24 and had nearly doubled NMU's field goal percentage (52.9% compared to NMU's 27.6%).

In the second half, Northern Michigan showed determination and managed to close the gap to just eleven points following a 10-1 run with nine minutes remaining on the clock. Despite having time to potentially turn the game around, Ferris State countered by scoring four consecutive points after a timeout.

Ferris State secured their victory by successfully making free throws towards the end of the game.

Max Weisbrod led Northern Michigan with a game-high score of 24 points. Sam Schultz contributed with 14 points and Carson Smith added another 13 points while Dylan Kuehl grabbed 13 rebounds for NMU. Ferris State's Ben Davidson and Ethan Erickson both scored 19 points each for their team.
