The Northern Michigan men's basketball team has clinched the GLIAC regular season title with a 21-9 overall record and a 14-4 conference record. The Wildcats will host Purdue Northwest in the quarterfinals of the GLIAC Tournament on March 6 at the Berry Events Center. The Pride enters the game with a 13-15 overall record, having lost their last three games.

Northern Michigan's recent success includes an 83-64 victory over Davenport, securing their first outright GLIAC regular season title since the 1992-93 season. In that game, Carson Smith led with 16 points while Sam Schultz recorded a double-double. The Wildcats shot over 50% from the field for the eighth time this season.

The Wildcats are ranked third in the latest Midwest Regional poll and have been strong at home, boasting a record of 24-2 since February 2022 at Berry Events Center. Max Weisbrod has been notable in recent performances, averaging 21.8 points per game over his last eleven outings.

Purdue Northwest concluded their regular season with a loss to Ferris State and holds a conference record of 7-11. Brendan Temple leads their scoring efforts, averaging 13.7 points per game.

This will be the third meeting between Northern Michigan and Purdue Northwest this season, with NMU winning both previous encounters by narrow margins.

The upcoming GLIAC Tournament schedule features four quarterfinal games hosted by higher-seeded teams on March 6, followed by semifinals on March 9 and the championship on March 10.
