The Northern Michigan University (NMU) women's golf team is preparing for the Klash in Kentucky, set to take place at the Perry Park Golf Resort in Perry Park, Kentucky. The event, hosted by the Southwest Golf Academy, will occur from Friday, March 22 to Saturday, March 23.
The NMU team will include players Maya Hunter, Hailey Bolander, Payton Donnelly, Maggie Pietila, Payton Dube, and Gabriella Moreau. Updates on their performance can be followed through the NMU Athletics website and social media accounts @nmu_wildcats and @nmu_wildcat_golf.
In their previous outing, the NMU women's golf team finished eighth out of 14 teams. Maya Hunter led the team with a notable second round score of -1 (71), moving up three spots from Saturday to Sunday. Her performance was highlighted by three birdies and 13 pars in round two after not recording any birdies in round one. This score tied her previous best from last year's NCAA II East Regionals as the third-best 18-hole round in NMU women's golf history.
Overall, the team improved significantly in their second round by reducing their score by 27 strokes compared to their first round. They posted a total score of +75 over two rounds with scores of 339 and 312 respectively. The team's performance placed them four strokes behind Trevecca Nazarene University and one stroke ahead of Northwood.
Throughout the competition weekend, NMU played par-3 holes at +30 (3.75 average), par-4 holes at +58 (4.58 average), and achieved fourth-best on par-5 holes at +18 (5.45). The team recorded a total of 83 pars and seven birdies during the event.
