The Northern Michigan University (NMU) men's soccer program has announced the addition of Chance Vang as an assistant coach for the 2024 season. Vang previously served at the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs (UCCS) during the 2023 season, where he contributed to a successful campaign with a 10-6-5 record and participation in the NCAA National Tournament. The Mountain Lions achieved a ranking as high as No. 14 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NCAA DII National Polls.
Alex Fatovic, entering his third year as head coach of NMU men's soccer, expressed enthusiasm about Vang's appointment: "I'm excited to announce our next assistant coach as we continue to grow our young program. We had a huge interest in the position, and from the start, Chance demonstrated the right combination of professionalism and character that I believe will help our players develop and take that next step in their maturation. Chances' experience, as well as his passion and positive energy for the game, will fit right in with our team culture. We can't wait to get started next semester. Welcome, Chance!"
Before joining UCCS, Vang was head coach at Northeastern Junior College, leading them to a 24-7-3 record over two years (2021-2023) and achieving a No. 18 ranking in NJCAA Division I National Rankings.
Vang acknowledged those who supported him throughout his career: "First, I would like to give my greatest appreciation to my parents for always giving me so much overwhelming support throughout my coaching career. I [would] also like to thank Head Coach Alex Fatovic, Senior Associate AD Robin Burke, and Northern Michigan Athletics for welcoming me with open arms."
As a former student-athlete and graduate of UW-Parkside within the GLIAC conference, Vang brings firsthand experience having been part of both GLIAC Regular Season and Tournament Champion teams in 2019.
He expressed excitement about his new role: "I am buzzing to be joining the Northern Michigan University Men's Soccer Program, as I believe that this team has all the potential to win GLIAC Championships and compete in the NCAA National Tournament. I am all about tradition, culture, and passion, and I am determined to fully support Coach Fatovic and our student-athletes through these values."
Originally from Denver, Colorado, Vang played with Colorado Rapids MLS Academy and Colorado Rush Academy in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy League (DA). In 2012 he led his team to victory at the Colorado State Cup Championship while earning MVP honors.
Additionally serving on Hmong Futbol Federation's board—an organization participating in CONIFA World Cup—Vang brings extensive experience beyond collegiate coaching.
