The men's golf team completed the first round of the Sea Trail Intercollegiate, placing tied for fifth out of nine teams with a score of +12. Eric Yun leads the team individually, standing at T7.
The team is 12 shots behind the leader and five shots away from third place after 18 holes in North Carolina. The 'Cats performed well on par 3's, finishing second-best with an average of 3.25 strokes (+6), and ranked fourth on par 4's with an average of 4.32 strokes (+19). They also recorded the second-most pars in the field, totaling 60.
However, they struggled on par 5's, where they shot +2 and averaged 5.08 strokes, placing them seventh among competitors.
Eric Yun achieved a score of even-par (72) and is three strokes off the lead. He excelled on par 4's at -1 (T2 among competitors) and maintained even scores on par fives while securing ten pars and four birdies.
Brady Badker scored +3 (75), Russel Sprecher scored +4 (76), and Walter Ylitalo scored +5 (77), finishing T20, T28, and T32 respectively. Both Badker and Sprecher played evenly on par 3's; Badker also recorded the most pars in the field with sixteen.
Arthur Ylitalo finished at +7 (79) in T43, while Tyler Annala ended at +8 (80) in T46.
Round two will commence tomorrow morning at Sunset Beach with tee times starting at 8 AM.
