The NMU Alpine Ski Team concluded their competition at Marquette Mountain over the weekend, with notable performances in the Giant Slalom event. The women's team achieved a podium sweep, with Tommie Springer taking gold, Reagan Olli earning silver, and Ainsley Kirk securing bronze. On the men's side, Reed Heathman claimed a silver medal.
The women's team finished first overall with six team points, while the men's team accumulated 11 points. In the men's results, Heathman recorded times of 32.56 and 28.26 for a total of 1:00.82, tying for second place with Graham Barwick and missing first place by just 0.01 seconds (1:00.81). After his initial run placed him sixth, Heathman's second run was tied for the fastest result.
Will Blackmer and Aaron Grzelak followed closely behind in fourth and fifth places respectively, with Andrew Truman completing the top ten in tenth place. Other notable finishes included Mitchell Forsberg in twelfth position and Connor Abraham and Brad Seaborg finishing fifteenth and sixteenth respectively.
In the women's category, Springer's times of 29.97 and 32.59 led her to victory with a total time of 1:02.56. Olli improved her standing significantly after her second run to secure second place with a total time of 1:03.91, while Kirk completed the podium sweep with a total time of 1:04.25.
Julia Greene and Jacey Johnson placed twelfth and thirteenth respectively in the women's race standings, while Erin Hoelzel finished nineteenth.
Looking ahead, NMU's ski team will compete next at the USCSA National Championships from March 4-9, marking their final meet of the season.
