Wildcats excel on home slopes at USCSA Regionals

Marquette Mountain in Marquette, Michigan, hosted the 2024 USCSA Regionals on Saturday. The Wildcats showcased their skiing prowess by securing five out of six podium positions in the Slalom event.

In the men's competition, Aaron Grzelak led his team with a gold medal performance, completing his runs in 35.54 and 36.20 seconds for a total time of 1:11.74. His teammate Brad Seaborg claimed silver with times of 36.33 and 36.55, totaling 1:12.88, after moving up from sixth place following his first run. Reed Heathman secured third place with a combined time of 1:13.58.

For the women, Ella Wichert achieved gold with times of 36.60 and 40.51, totaling 1:17.11, while Reagan Olli took silver with a total time of 1:17.57 from her runs at 36.81 and 40.76 seconds.

The men's team also saw Mitchell Forsberg finish in 13th place and Andrew Truman in 50th place, while Connor Abraham, Will Blackmer, Nathan Dehart, and Colin Dehart did not finish either their first or second runs.

On the women's side, Ainsley Kirk narrowly missed the podium by finishing fourth with a total time of 1:18.83, just .04 seconds behind third place. Tommie Springer finished seventh overall.

Other notable performances included Emily Creek's near top-10 finish at .06 seconds short; Maya Bubolz and Erin Hoelzel placed 20th and 21st respectively; Georgette Sake came in at position number thirty-eight; while Julia Greene, Jacey Johnson, and Cassidy Whitener did not complete their first run.

The competition continues tomorrow with the Giant Slalom event starting at 10:30 AM for the first runs followed by second runs at 1:30 PM.
