The NMU men's hockey team concluded its weekend series in Colorado with a 6-1 defeat against No. 12 Colorado College on Saturday. The Tigers quickly established a 2-0 lead within the first three minutes, prompting NMU coach Dave Shyiak to call an early timeout.

Following the timeout, the Wildcats managed to score their only goal of the game. Ryan Duguay netted his first goal as a Wildcat just as a Tiger penalty was about to expire, assisted by Joe Schiller and Jakob Peterson.

Colorado College extended their lead with one goal in the second period and three more in the third, securing their victory over NMU. Ethan Barwick made his debut start for the Wildcats, recording 30 saves during the match.

The game's opening saw Colorado College scoring two goals rapidly, which led to Shyiak's decision to regroup his team. Duguay's goal came after he advanced from the blue line and shot past Mbereko following some unusual bounces.

The Tigers regained their two-goal advantage after capitalizing on a failed clearance by NMU. Blais-Savoie received a cross-point pass and scored with a shot that eluded Barwick. In the third period, Veremyev scored just 20 seconds in with a one-timer through traffic.

Later, Gallagher took advantage of fatigued Wildcats defensemen during another power play opportunity, scoring from close range. The Tigers capped off their performance with another power-play goal just before the final buzzer.

Looking ahead, NMU will host Alaska Anchorage for their home opener as they begin a five-game home stand.
