A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Dekalb County, Illinois, on September 26, 2024. The request, made by us at DeKalb Times, seeks detailed information about the county's vendor payments from the beginning of the year until the date of the request.
Specifically, we asked for a list of all payments made to vendors during this period. The requested details include the name of each vendor, the date of each transaction, a description of what each payment was for, and the amount paid in each transaction.
As a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to such public records is essential for our work. This information allows us to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to our readership.
We have requested that these records be provided in an electronic format for ease of analysis and dissemination. Furthermore, given our role as a media outlet disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as per the provisions under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
We await Dekalb County's response and will continue our efforts to ensure transparency in local government affairs.
