NMU women's soccer defeats Roosevelt Lakers 6-0

The NMU women's soccer team opened its road slate of GLIAC matches with a dominant 6-0 victory over the Roosevelt Lakers in Chicago. Ten different Wildcats recorded at least one point, with Brooke Pietila and Lucy Burk each contributing a goal and an assist.

NMU led significantly in shots (29-2), shots on goal (14-0), and corners (10-0). The Wildcats now hold a 4-2-1 record with a 2-1-0 conference mark. They aim for another win this Sunday in Indiana.

Brooke Pietila registered a goal and an assist, bringing her to eight points in seven games. Freshman Lucy Burk scored a goal and tallied an assist in her second career game. Hannah Kastamo scored her third goal of the season, Stephanie Trujillo added her second, Molly Pistorius found the scoresheet for the second time this season, Caitlyn Trombley scored her first goal of the season, Allison Kroll registered an assist, Ashley Koch earned her first point of the season with an assist, Justina L'Esperance recorded her second assist of the season, and Bilbia contributed an assist.

The Wildcats set or tied season highs in points (18), goals (6), assists (6), shots (29), and corner kicks (10).

The scoring began 15 minutes into the game when Pietila's free kick found Kastamo in stride, who redirected it past the keeper. Burk doubled the lead after receiving a pass from Kroll inside the box. Four minutes later, Trujillo fired a volley into the bottom right corner following a cross from Trombley.

In the second half, L'Esperance's cross was headed into the net by Pistorius, followed by Bilbia's similar cross that found Pietila's head for another goal. Trombley capped off the scoring after receiving a service ball from Burk.

The Wildcats will next face Purdue Northwest Pride in Hammond, Indiana on Sunday at noon ET.
